Square Steel Posts

Square Steel Posts in Melbourne

Square steel posts are a strong, straight alternative to timber for fencing, gates, carports, pergolas and slat screens. Our range includes galvanised and painted SHS posts in common sizes and lengths, with post caps and base plates to finish them off. They suit fencers and builders after posts that won't rot, twist or attract termites.

Choosing the right square steel post

  • Size: 50x50mm suits most fences and screens, while 65x65mm or 75x75mm posts suit gates, taller screens and pergolas.
  • Wall thickness: thicker walls give more strength; use a heavier wall for gate posts and load-bearing structures.
  • Finish: galvanised posts resist rust and can be painted; powder-coated or painted posts can match Colorbond or slat fencing.
  • Length: allow roughly a third of the above-ground height below ground for fence posts, set in concrete.
  • Fixing: use caps to keep water out, and base plates if bolting to an existing slab.
