Responsible Timber Sourcing Policy

At A Class Building Materials, we recognise our responsibility to source timber in a way that supports healthy forests, protects biodiversity, respects workers and communities, and contributes to long-term sustainable supply. We are committed to sourcing timber that is legally harvested, responsibly managed, and traceable across the supply chain.

Our Sourcing Approach

We give preference to timber independently certified under a recognised third-party scheme. We accept two categories of responsible sources:

Certified sources — timber certified under FSC®, PEFC, or Responsible Wood. This is our preferred sourcing pathway.

Our Commitments

A Class Building Materials will:

  • Avoid timber known or suspected to be illegally harvested, from high conservation value forests, from endangered species, or associated with modern slavery or conflict.
  • Expect suppliers to comply with all applicable laws, including the Illegal Logging Prohibition Act, and to uphold the rights of Indigenous and local communities.
  • Uphold ethical labour standards across our supply chain, including zero tolerance for child labour, forced labour, and discrimination.
  • Conduct annual supplier reviews covering legality, certification status, traceability, and social responsibility.
  • Work with suppliers on remediation where issues are identified, and cease sourcing where non-compliance cannot be resolved.

Why It Matters

Responsibly sourced timber supports low-carbon construction, meets legal due diligence requirements, and contributes to Australia’s renewable materials economy. Certified timber also satisfies the requirements of leading green building frameworks including Green Star, NABERS, and WELL.

We are committed to continuous improvement in responsible timber sourcing — strengthening supplier processes, increasing transparency, and staying current with certification standards and legislation. This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as needed.
