Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policy
Our Vision
“To empower every member of our team to be physically and psychologically at their best — at work and at home.”
At A Class Building Materials, we believe that all workplace injuries and illnesses are preventable. The health, safety, and wellbeing of our team members, contractors, and customers is our highest priority, and we are committed to building a workplace culture where everyone goes home safe, every day.
Our Commitment
We are fully committed to providing a physically and psychologically safe work environment. This commitment applies to everyone who works with or visits A Class Building Materials — including employees, contractors, and customers.
We demonstrate this commitment by:
- Fostering a safety-first culture where leaders actively drive safe behaviours and every team member takes personal responsibility for the wellbeing of those around them.
- Communicating safety information, risks, and improvement ideas openly and regularly with our team and key stakeholders.
- Identifying, managing, and controlling hazards relevant to the nature of our business, including those arising from the handling, storage, and supply of building materials.
- Accurately reporting, recording, and following up all safety incidents and near-misses, and ensuring reportable events are notified to relevant regulatory bodies within required timeframes.
- Maintaining a return-to-work and injury management program that promotes early intervention and recovery at work.
- Setting measurable safety and wellbeing objectives, tracking our performance, and sharing outcomes transparently with our team and stakeholders.
- Complying fully with applicable Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and any relevant regulatory requirements.
Roles & Responsibilities
Leadership
Our leaders are responsible for setting the tone on safety. This means:
- Leading by example and consistently demonstrating safe behaviours.
- Ensuring their teams have the information, training, and resources needed to work safely.
- Promptly addressing hazards, incidents, and safety concerns raised by team members.
- Recognising and reinforcing safe behaviour across the team.
All Team Members
Every person who works at A Class Building Materials has a responsibility to:
- Follow safe work procedures and comply with this policy and applicable WHS obligations.
- Report hazards, near-misses, and incidents promptly — no matter how minor they may seem.
- Speak up if they observe an unsafe situation or practice, without fear of negative consequences.
- Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others in the workplace.
Hazard & Risk Management
We take a proactive approach to identifying and managing workplace risks. This includes:
- Conducting regular workplace inspections and risk assessments.
- Implementing appropriate controls to eliminate or minimise identified hazards.
- Reviewing and updating our safety controls when work processes, equipment, or conditions change.
- Ensuring that safety management is proportionate to the nature and risk profile of our operations.
Where hazards cannot be eliminated, we apply the hierarchy of controls to reduce risk to the lowest practicable level.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
All reported events will be:
- Investigated promptly and thoroughly.
- Recorded and tracked through to resolution.
- Used to identify corrective actions and improvements that benefit the whole team.
We will also set and review measurable safety objectives on a regular basis to drive continuous improvement and hold ourselves accountable to the standards we set.
Regulatory Compliance
A Class Building Materials operates in accordance with applicable Work Health and Safety legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act and associated regulations as they apply in Victoria. We are committed to:
- Meeting all legal obligations relating to workplace health and safety.
- Cooperating fully with relevant regulatory bodies and inspectors.
- Maintaining accurate records of safety incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Staying informed of legislative changes and updating our practices accordingly.
We recognise the importance of nationally consistent WHS regulation and support practical, evidence-based approaches to safety compliance that focus on meaningful outcomes rather than administrative burden.
Psychological Safety & Wellbeing
We recognise that wellbeing extends beyond physical safety. A Class Building Materials is committed to supporting the psychological health of our team by:
- Promoting an open, respectful workplace culture where people feel safe to speak up.
- Providing access to support resources for team members experiencing mental health challenges.
- Addressing psychosocial hazards in the workplace, including excessive workload, bullying, or poor communication, with the same seriousness as physical hazards.
- Encouraging work-life balance and early intervention for team members who may be struggling.
Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains current, effective, and aligned with our legal obligations and operational needs. A Class Building Materials reserves the right to amend this policy at any time. The most current version will be made available to all team members.
For questions about this policy or to raise a safety concern, please speak with your direct manager or contact us at:
